Scotland & England: Full Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Wednesday, September 12, 2018  Depart USA

Our adventure begins as we depart on our international flight and wing our way over the Atlantic to Edinburgh, Scotland!  Meals will be serve inflight.

Day 2: Thursday, September 13, 2018  Edinburgh

Upon arrival in Edinburgh, we clear customs and then meet our coach and driver.  We transfer into the city and settle in at our centrally-located home.  Tonight, we eat well at our welcome dinner.  D

Day 3: Friday, September 14, 2018 Edinburgh

This morning we enjoy a panoramic coach tour of Edinburgh, a beautiful city, often referred to as the "Athens of the North!" Highlights will include the Walter Scott Monument, the elegant Prince's Street, Harbor areas, plus much more!  We have an inside tour of Edinburgh Castle, with its foreboding ramparts and walls, amazing city views, Crown jewels, and the siege gun, Mon's Meg.  After lunch, we take a short drive south to Rosslyn Chapel, a working Scottish Episcopal Church.  It is famous for being a Library in Stone.  Myths, legends and Hollywood fiction writing have given Rosslyn a unique sense of mystery and wonder.  After dinner this evening we have a guest speaker.  B, D

Day 4: Saturday, September 15, 2018 Edinburgh

After breakfast, a highlight of our tour awaits as we visit the Grand Lodge of Scotland.  While there, we also visit the Museum which houses the oldest Masonic records in the world, the famous "Burns Inauguration" painting, numerous artifacts, and much more.  We have the remainder of the day at leisure to get to know new friends, explore, sightsee or shop.  B

Day 5: Sunday, September 16, 2018 Stratford-Upon-Avon

We head south today, enjoying a full day of traveling through the lovely English countryside.  We arrive in Oxfordshire to tour the ancestral home of George Washington, Mulgrave Manor and Garden.  We can see where his five times great grandfather and wife raised eleven children.  Next we drive the short distance to the Stratford area and check in to our hotel in time for dinner.  B,D

Day 6: Monday, September 17, 2018 Stratford-Upon-Avon

Today we explore the Stratford-Upon-Avon, home of Shakespeare, the great bard himself!  Sightseeing highlights center around the Shakespeare sights int he area, including, of course, the birthplace of the great writer, as well as the famed "Anne Hathaway Cottage."  Later, we will drive the short distance to Warwick to explore the medieval castle--with its magnificent towers and ramparts, Warwick Castle offers you a thousand years of history.  Now that we are somewhat familiar with Stratford, we will be on our own for dinner tonight, to enjoy the restaurant of our choice, attend a Royal Shakespeare Theatre production or perhaps to have dinner with new local friends.  B

Day 7: Tuesday, September 18, 2018 London

We meander through the leisurely lanes of the Cotswolds on our way to "London Town."  Enroute we stop at Blenheim Palace, the birth place of Winston Churchill.  We take a tour of the palace and enjoy the gardens before continuing our drive to London.  We have the remainder of the afternoon and evening free to explore and dine as we choose.  B

Day 8: Wednesday, September 19, 2018 London

After a delightful English breakfast, we drive to the United Grand Lodge of England, based in downtown London.  We have a couple hours to visit and see the Museum and learn about some of the more famous Freemasons such as "Buffalo Bill" Cody, Peter Sellers, Robert Burns, or even Winston Churchill.  Our activities in London continue with a locally guided tour of the world's most visited city.  Highlighting our tour will be Big Ben and Parliament, Trafalgar Square with the Lord Nelson Column, Westminster Abbey, and of course, Picadilly Circus.  Second on our agenda is a tour of the Tower of London, including the Crown Jewels.  After dinner this evening we have a guest speaker.  B,D

Day 9: Thursday, September 20, 2018  London

We embark on a coach and walking tour of the Masonic sites and famous landmarks in London this morning and learn more of the area history and stories.  We have the afternoon free before a gala dinner this evening.  B,D

Day 10: Friday September 21, 2018 London

The entire day is open for options, a time to explore on our own.  Just a few of the many possibilities are the British Museum, the Docklands or Greenwich area, the British War Museum, and for art lovers, the Tate Gallery.  Or maybe an excursion to the Windsor Castle or Hampton Court Palace?  Why not go to St. James Church or Westminster Abbey to do a brass rubbing, and bring back one the the nicest souvenirs possible?  Certainly, of interest would be an hour or two at Harrods, one of the finest department stores in Europe.  A ride on the London Eye (ferris wheel) would be spectacular on a clear day.  B

Day 11: Saturday September 22, 2018 London

Regretfully, it's time to say "cheerio" and transfer to Heathrow Airport, where our flight is waiting to return us to the United States.  We return, however with memories of lovely landscapes, fabulous architecture, inspiring stories of our Freemason history, and most importantly, a wealth of new friends!  Welcome home!  B

  4. Aside from two or three stops along the way (Rosslyn Chapel, Freemasons' Hall in London, etc.) it's not really a "Masonic" Tour. You spend way too much time visiting non-Masonic sites, while passing up important Masonic stops along the way.
